Any one that knows me, knows that I'm a huge Beyonce fan. I think she's a great performer, has amazing vocals and is without a doubt, eye candy. For years, I've wondered how she's managed to stay at the top. All of my questions ceased to exist yesterday, when I heard her newest single and saw the video for, "Why don't you love me." Beyonce is a biter! (crowd gasp) I'm not saying there is anything wrong with biting because by all means neccessary, do what you have to in order to stay on top. But, I was disappointed to find that my suspicions were true.
Everything about this video says Lady GaGa. It made me giggle when I saw comments saying, "shes so original." No, she's not. Beyonce and the machine behind her takes whats hot at the moment and replicates it. Exhibit A: One of the biggest albums in 2007 was "Good Girl Gone Bad." It consisted of, up tempos and ballad orientated songs. Coincidentally, in November 2008, Beyonce released, "I am...Sasha Fierce." This album was also filled with up tempos and ballad oriented songs. It also, conceptually, was about good girl, "Beyonce" vs. bad girl, "Sasha Fierce." Don't be surprised if her next album consist of songs similar to all of Gaga's hit records from this year.
"Why don't you love me" video depicts a Beyonce that we didn't start seeing until, "Video Phone," a raunchy, tasteless Beyonce. You smoke cigarettes now B?? What the hell? You're hair is platinum blond? The Real Take says, the video and the track's old school, dance pop style has GaGa written all over it. Watch and listen to "Paparazzi" and you'll see the subtle similarities. The same similarities that are, apart of a bigger scheme to take the whole style, uniqueness and animation that has made Lady Gaga so popular. Lady Gaga has no worries though, it's not going to be an easy task. She has sold over ten million albums and over 35 million singles worldwide. (Akon hit the jackpot with that one.)
The song itself, didn't fail to do what all Beyonce songs do, get stuck in your head. I caught myself singing it several times and can't help but to laugh because she did it again. The people behind her have mastered the art of 'staying on your toes' but definitely didn't master the aspect of not stepping on anyone else's. Biter or no biter, I still admire the hell out of that women. It doesn't stop her from being put on Blast though. From her first r&b album, "Dangerously in Love" we've watched Beyonce evolve into a pop star and I'm always excited to see what she's going to do next. Now, I'm going to be excited about seeing what she's going to bite off who next.

i think ppl compare ppl too often for no reason.. NOBODY AND I MEAN NOBODY NEW OR OLD IS ORIGINAL.its all about their twist to the concept or image.. Beyonce is not tryn to be lady gaga (she doesnt need to be) shes BEYONCE!!.. some ppl r sayn that lady gaga is bitting off of Grace Jones ( and sometimes you can see it).. Lady Gaga isnt lady gaga its all an act.. Beyonce is experimenting.. thats what the game is all about.. I think ppl need to let these artist explore and have fun.. and ppl keep saying shes getting tasteless.. not really its just because ppl r so use to seeing video girls do this they think its tasteless.. until Beyonce does a video naked.. I dont think she will ever be tasteless...!!! and im sure solange had alot to do with the video, i mean she did right the song!
ReplyDeleteBeyonce is all ways going to adjust and adapt to the latest direction of music. This I will say she has been a great student of and you have to give her her props! The great ones stay current and GaGa and music in her vein is current! Keep doin what you do Beyonce! Great insight however!

ReplyDeleteJust Like Bow Wow And Lil Mama Are The Same Person lol
Beyonce does what other don't and that's stay relevant and whether we like it or not she keeps us clicking on iTunes and purchasing her singles and albums and not for nothing she's wanna the rare finds in pop r&b to do it they way she does it.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are all right. At the end of the day, music is a competetive sport. And she's a genious. I mean she did a song with Shakira and then released a spanish album. She did a song with Gaga and is taking Gagas style. She is a swagga jakka but YOU CANT EVEN BE MAD bc shes stays relevant.
